Hi everyone! I don't have a question today. I'm writing with a recommendation for all lovers of historical romance. The author is Diana Gabaldon and the books are as follows:
Outlander; Dragonfly in Amber; Voyageur; Drums of Autumn; The Fiery Cross; plus at least 2 more books to follow soon.
These books were absolutely THE best series I've ever read and I've read thousands of books. I'm actually on my fourth re-read (that's what all the fans do in between books) and I'm enjoying it just as much as the first time. Jamie, the hero, is every woman's dream. There's even a website called Ladies of Lallybroch(Jamie's home) where nothing but these books are discussed and it's been around for years.
Hope you'll give it a read, truly, the best story ever. First book came out in 1990, I believe and that's when I bought it and read it. I remember talking about it to my 3 sisters (almost hyperventilating) and disappointingly, they were not interested. But a few years later (I've never let up on them) they've all read the books and I've managed to haul in a number of other friends and cousins into the web. Once they read the first book, they've all said the same thing: That was the most amazing book I've ever read! It's really funny when we get together, Jamie's name comes up as if we all know him personally and each of us claim him as our own.
Just to give you a rough idea what Outlander is about....Claire is a nurse during the war (1940's) married to Frank. They go off to Scotland for a visit and one day Claire accidentally slips through a circle of stones and is transported back two hundred years where she meets Jamie Fraser and is forced to marry him for protection. Of course they fall in love but it's a love unlike any I've ever read about. It actually makes you ache. Diana Gabaldon is a master with her historical details and her knowledge about healing, witchcraft, etc. The story continues with Dragonfly in Amber and just gets more and more involved. The books are quite large (something like 600 pages) but it's still never enough for me.
Hope to hear from someone else who's read the books and hopefully in the near future from new cult followers.
That series of book was given to me by a friend about a year ago., I have not read it because she said the first one was good but the others not so much, so I was not sure I wanted to start that long of a series if I wouldnt like it. I have considered it a couple of times but never did. Now that you say what a great set of books they are and about the web site and all that you have made me very curious. So I am starting the book now. I hope your right. Im trusting that, so here I go. Chapter 1
