I am desperately looking for the first romance novel I ever read (some time around 1985). It goes a little something like this: It is set during the American Revolution. She is on her way to Virginia from England. She is kidnapped (for ransom?) by a masked revolutionary known as "the Raven". She is held captive and there is a steamy love scene on a beach where it is dark enough that he doesn't have to wear the mask.
Her ransom is paid and she is released (possibly to her father) and finds that she is pregnant. A very wimpy tory agrees to marry her to give her baby a father. Of course the wimpy tory turns out to be "the Raven".
There is a scene where the overseer of his plantation quits and she puts a slave in charge of the plantation.
If anyone can be of help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Have you checked "historical romance writers"? They have a hero list where you can look up the names of the characters....they also have a "all writers" list where you can look in more than just historical. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much. I actually found the novel. It is called Velvet Chains by Constance O'Banyon. It was as good as I remembered it. I enjoyed it just as much as an adult as I did as a teenager.
