I am trying to remember the name of a book that I read a few years ago.

The storyline is:  A girl is gets engaged. A stranger attends her engagement party looking for revenge on the girl's father. He decideds to use the girl. She helps the stranger look at a house and gets caught by her father and fiance. Her father then beats her. The stranger takes her aboard a ship and they head to America. She finds out that  she is pregnant but loses the baby. Can anyone help??   thanks
