I'm desperately looking for the title and author of a book I read sometime in the early 90's, I believe.  I don't remember the characters names, but I vaguely remember the plot.  I believe it was set in the south around civil war era, possibly earlier than that.  The main heroine met a man, fell in love, had a "best friend" who turned on her.  The best friend and her lover kidnapped the heroine, hung her from a ceiling by her arms, abused her andcaused the heroine to lose her baby.  I seem to recall that the heroine's husband found out where she was and rescued her by shooting the best friend's lover in the groin area, I think.  I think they killed the friend, also.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!  Thanks!
