I've been looking for a book. She's very beautiful and known throughout the land. She was raised in a secluded property and then her father had her return to their home to marry her off. She has a companion who's a servant/friend. The servant/friend (a man) is sort of viewed as not very bright/stupid and not good looking. The father is trying to marry her off. In the end, her father said/wrote a letter (can't remember) that he would have not given her to "him" if he didn't know that he would be good to her. Can someone help me remember this title, please?
Sounds like a Catherine Coulter Sherbrook Bride book. She was a tomboy and the father seems like a big jerk in the beginning but ends up being ok in the end...
I read a book like that, The one I read was called "Heiress" I cant remember who wrote it but the girls name in Alex Maidenhall and the guys name is Jamie Montgonery. The dad kept the girl in a estate that was walled and protected, with her cousin Francis, and a crippled boy names Toad or Todd as her companians. He sets up a marriage for her and hires Jamie to escort her there. He is from a proud family name but dirt poor so he sets out to win the heiresses heart while traveling. The Heiress (Alex) and her cousin decide to swich places for the trip so the cousin can get all the attention and Alex can travel as a normal person. James tries to woo francis but falls for Alex and marries her. The dad comes for his daughter and thats when Jamie finds out he really did marry the heiress. Great story, one of my faves.
