This story begins in America - I believe war of 1812 era or revolution - with the heroine taking her skiff across the Bay to town. Intercepts an Englishman who is suspected of spying and rescues him. Claimed he was her uncle that she had been sent to pick up.  He, in turn, kidnaps her when his ship picks them up as she sails back across the bay with him. He takes her to England with him. She finds out he is an English Lord and was spying, etc. He contacts her father to let him know that he has her and will return her to America. Remember the ending, where her father is having a fit about the cook being french and using sauces on everything.  Does anyone rememer this book?!
