I read a book in the late 80's early 90's about a hero & heroine I can't remember. And a plot I can't remember. The heroine's name might have been Alison...

What I do remember is the heroine had a brother named Lord 'George' whose wife had become pregnant by some other man from one of her many affairs. She botched an attempted abortion and died. He was quite bitter by the end of the book, while the hero & heroine were ecstatic.

I remember I really liked the book, and kept it a while. I remember wondering if George had ever gotten his own story, and wasn't quite so bitter anymore.

I lost the book during a move in 1994. I've been looking at book exchanges, used book stores, but without a title, author, or even the main characters names, it's been difficult.

Do the characters ring a bell for anyone? Hope someone can help me!?
