My name is Lizzie and I'm from Belgium. I'm hopelesly addicted to Karen Marie Moning's books and since I'll have to wait until the first of august for her release of 'Spell of the Higlander', I was wondering if any of you knew an author who writes as good as she does and in the same style.
I mean both. And now I'm going to quote someone, who put down just the way I feel anout KMM's books.
"I read severial romance novels a month. Or I used to untill I found one of Karen's books and discovered her stories for the first time. I was captivated! I went and bought every book she had written and read them all. Now I am ruined for all other books. Its like her books are going to Disney world while all the others seem like six flags. (grin). I dont read as much any more simply because all the books are boring compared to hers. I wish I could find another author that writes as good as she does so I would have something to read while waiting for Karen's books to come out. I cannot wait for "spell". Im counting the days. "
Please help me to find someone who can stand next to her books.
I discovered Karen Marie Moning just a short while ago as well, but because I review so many books, I guess I have diverse tastes. I love her stories, but there are other great writers out there too.
If you like gritty, sexy Scottish romances, then I would suggest Sue-Ellen Welfonder. I've read every single book she's ever written (except the new one, but I'll be reviewing that soon), and if you like big sexy highlanders, a beautiful but gritty landscape and spirited heroines, then I think you should give her a try. Start off with her first book Devil in a Kilt.
Also, you might want to try Devil Takes A Bride and One Knight of Sin by Gaelen Foley, though her books take place in the Regency period, her stuff is like watching a movie it so filled with action and intrigue, and sex (grin) - especially One Night of Sin. That book is hot hot hot!
Liz Carlyle's latest: The Devil To Pay is very gritty, and very sexy with an unusual hero and heroine and filled with plenty of action and intrigue.
Sabrina Jeffries' The Royal Brotherhood series is a lot of fun and has a lot of sex. I have noticed that books are getting steamier all the time.
If you like vampires, I just reviewed My Demon's Kiss by Lucy Blue and that was great. The beginning was like watching a vampire movie unfold. Great storyline and very sexy.
Also, In Your Wildest Dreams by Toni Blake. Though this is a contemporary this book is so good, so gritty and so sensual it borders on erotic that I read it in one day (and I don't read modern romances!). Its about this woman who's looking for her missing sister who may be a prostitute, so she dresses up as a call girl to look for her in the Big Easy, and gets into trouble, only to be rescued by this big handsome bartender who turns out to be an ex-cop, who finally decides to help her. And let me tell you, when the sparks fly, you better watch out or your going to get burned. <g>
Anything by Anya Bast, she writes fantasy/erotic, and her books are great. Especially Winter Pleasures, Spring Pleasures, Summer Pleasures and Autumn Pleasures (read in that order). Her stories were originally in ebook form (and still are) but Ellora's Cave Publishing is also publishing her stuff in paperback.
I read 'Devil in a Kilt' by S. Wellfonder 2 weeks ago, it was a good read. And now I tried Janet Chapman's 'Charming the Highlander' ( a suggestion from someone on another forum) and I enjoyed it very mutch, so there are indeed other good writers but I'm still anticapating KMM's 'Spell'.
Happens I have 'Devil takes a bride' by Gaelen Foley in my to be read pile .
It's not that I only read medievals with schottish hunks, I enjoy an occasional regency like Karen Hawkins, Candice Hern. Also Teresa Medeiros, Lynn Kurland and Sherrylin Kenyon are a few of my favourite romance authors .
Since you read Devil in a Kilt, you will love the sequal Bride of the Beast. I have to say that when I read that book, it blew me away. Of course you have to like Sir Marmaduke to love that book. And let me tell you, it is so hot and so filled with intrigue it is fantastic. It is one of my top romances to date, and I've read tons and tons since before starting HRC.
I've never read any of Candice Hern, what's her books like?
(I love these emoticons) (I couldn't resist, I use to collect Batman comics when I was a teenager. In fact, I still have my thousand comic collection. So I just had to use this. <g>)
