Hello new members!

I notice that we had a rush of new members this week so I thought I'd start a new thread to say hello to everyone!

salfredo mari Daisymau ttessa782

So introduce yourself!

Where are you from?

(I'm on an island on Canada's west coast)

What was your first historical romance?

(Sky O'Malley by Bertirce Small and every other since has been compared to it)

How did you find this cozy little board?

(to be honest I can't recall, but I'm glad I'm here)

Is it pouring rain where you are?

(So much for BBQ for dinner! Everything is soaked!)

Hmmm. Well, slap my face and call me "Red" . I done plum fergot when I commenced to start ayakkin' here to tell y'all who the heck I am! Tsk,tsk, tsk *shaking finger at self*

I'm Anne. The BZH stands for Big Zen Hugs 'cause I'd hug ya if'n I could but since I can't, I zen instead. I'm from Big D, (that's Dallas, Texas, USA).

My first romance was "Captive Bride" by Johanna Lindsey .

How'd I find this here board?  Through Romantic Times General message Board. Got a headsup from a cyberbuddy and posted over here. Liked it and decided to jine up with y'all.

And no, we got rain last night when the cold front blew in. And wind gusts up to 70mph. It's partly cloudy, breezy and the temp today is 79 degrees. Quite a relief when yesterday at this time it was 104 w/ a heat index of 108 .

Hello, My name is Chris I googled and found this historical romance section and joined.
I believe my first Historical Romance book was The Duke and I, by Julia Quinn.
That got me hooked and I can't even tell you how many I have read since.
I live in Santee, California (San Diego) so the weather has been beautiful lately. Actually we are having Santa Ana's right now so it is a bit warm. Can't wait for winter!!!

Hi Chris,

Glad to have you aboard. I know what you mean about not knowing how many you've read. I've end up with the same book more than once because I don't keep track of what I've read. I'm thinking I should teach myself how to use Access and start a database of what I've read!

I'm not sure about Julia Quinn, but Paula Quinn has a contest on right now that's posted in the Author Announcements section.

Hello everyone,

Taking a moment out of deadline hell to say hi. My name is Paula Quinn. I live in NYC and I am the author of Lord Of Desire. Gosh, I've been reading for so long I can't remember what my first historical romance was. It may have been The Mists Of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, which is more in the fantasy genre, but the romance was there. King Arthur (sigh) just his name symbolizes romance for me.

And yep, I have a new contest running on my site, so come on over for a chance to win!

Have a wonderful weekend and keep reading!

Paula

Thank you for the welcome, how cool is it that there is a real author on this website. That is so exciting. I can't wait to read your book, then my problem will be waiting for the next one to come out. That happens to me all the time, I find an author I love and I read all the books faster than they can be written.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Chris, I hope you love Lord Of Desire when you read it as much as I loved writing it.  Lord Of Temptation will definately be worth the wait.

It's been warm here in NYC too, and I'm more than ready for the winter!

Hey Netta,

Great to have you here. Speaking of names, I recently changed mine here. (Mostly to avoid confusion on my part )

I've read a few Virginia Henly books and although I have a mind like a sieve when it comes to titles etc. I'm pretty sure I liked them, otherwise I probably wouldn't even recognise her name.

It seems like that wet stuff falling from the sky is an issue everywhere. I'm on the other coast and it's been r&%^$ning for days here.

What other genres are you "venturing into"?

Jenn

I have tried, but I just can't bring myself to read contemps. Well, except for a couple Tami Hoags but I picked those up thinking they were straight suspense and didn't realize that there was a romance plot in there too.

Paranormals seem to be the big thing right now.

I've only recently started reading them, and mostly thanks to our lovely Webmistress. I haven't read any vampire or shapeshifter stories, but I love faeries and fantasy worlds. Johanna Lindsey has a couple of books that take place on a planet inhabited by seven foot tall barbarians. Very nice.

Hi all!  I know I kind of missed the initial new member welcome in Septmember (having just joined a few minutes ago), but I thought I'd jump in here anyway to say hi! :)

My name's Kari, and I'm from Northern California.

My first historical romance was Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey.  Yes, for those of you who have read the series, it is the third of the Malory books - I started in the middle not realizing at first that it was part of a series.  My grandmother had hundreds of romance novels (mostly historical) and once I discovered how great they were I devoured them.  Lindsey is still one of my favorites, but my most recent obsessions are Stephanie Laurens, Victoria Alexander, and Catherine Coulter (though there are many others as well).

I found this board because I was obsessed with finding a book I read a long time ago (which I posted about on the Help board - if you have a moment, I'd appreciate your taking a glance and helping me out with it) and needed friends to give me a hand.  Once I found this place, I figured I could finally have people to chat with about my love for historical romance.

And no, it's not raining here in CA.  It's sunny and mild... like pretty much always.

Hi Kari,

We're always happy to welcome new members. I love Johanna Lindsey, I've just finished one of hers, and I'm about to start another. I haven't read any of the Malory books though. I take it they are good?

I looked at your post in the "Can You Help Me?" board, and I'm afraid it isn't ringing any bells. I'll keep an eye out for it though.

Nice to meet you!

Jenn

Jenn (and any other interested parties),

The Malory books are AWESOME - probably my favorite series ever.  In order, it's Love Only Once, Tender Rebel, Gentle Rogue, The Magic of You, Say You Love Me, The Present, and A Loving Scoundrel.  I highly recommend them to anyone who likes historical series; the Malorys are one of the greatest families of characters ever written.

Welcome!!!

I am new here myself

I also recently found Stephanie Laurens and I love her. I have a question on the Mallary series by Johanna Lindsey, do you have to read them in order?  Rather is it better to read them in order?

Does Johanna Lindsey write really steamy stuff or mellow steam?

Again welcome and can't wait for more info here

Some Johanna Lindsey books have more than others. In general I'd say she's about a 3 roses (according to the ratings in the reviews). Steamy, but not too hot and never explicit.

I'm curious about the Mallory's too. I just picked up The Present and I'm hoping I can read it soon. I don't have any of the others.

Jenn - I definitely agree with your assessment of the "steaminess" of Johanna Lindsay.

As far as reading them in order, I've never yet met a series of books that couldn't be read (and enjoyed) out of order.  There are pros and cons to each side - reading them in order introduces the characters at the appropriate moments and gives you plot development and foreshadowing in a logical sequence.  Reading them out of order leaves you confused sometimes (when you lack background information), but can be even more fun when you read earlier books (knowing the characters and what will happen to them already).  Does that make sense?  So if you want to read them out of order, go for it.

Hi, I'm Tami, I'm from Ohio, it's sunny and cold out today... I hate the cold. I'm a sunshine kinda gal.

I found this board from the link in Jenn's signature on my board... lol. And I clicked the little link and BAM here I am!

Anyway, I don't really read many historicals, but those are the ones that got me hooked on reading romance to begin with. My very first romance story was a Madeline Baker. I adored it, went back and found everything I could by her. Then I moved on to discover, Connie Mason, Bobbi Smith, Sheryl Henke... etc. Now my addiction is Contemporary... generally the steamier the better for me.

Anyway, glad to be here!

Hi Tami!

Yay! You're on my board! (well, not really mine, but you know) How different!

We are more than just historicals here. There are lots of reviews for books and interviews with authors that fall into the paranormal: shapeshifters, vampires, etc. some of which are contemporaries. I think you may recognize a few names. Sherrilyn Kenyon comes to mind.

Hello All,

I'm a newbie.  I just managed to get registered.  I'm from Northeastern Pennsylvania.

My first historical romance was The wolf & The Dove, by Kathleen Woodiwiss, that

was 25 years ago or more.  I got away from reading romance and while ago and was into

reading Horror and mysteries.  One night I think I scared myself reading and went running

back to Historical Romance and now I love them. I have a big box of to be read piles.

I really love Regency time period with gothic and that is my perfect book.

Welcome to The Room acountrygirlim & luvhisroom, so nice to have you here!

Acountrygirlim, I agree with you on Johanna Lindsey.  She is one of my favorites too.  Until Forever is the my favorite with Love Only Once right behind it.

Luvhisroom, I can't get into the spooky books either.  I would have nightmares for weeks!

Welcome to both of you!

G'day!

My name is Jacqui and im a readaholic!! Im from NSW, Australia.. I found this website by googling, trying to find sites that can recommend some new authors. The agonizing wait for a new release by a favourite author is awful... but I DO love discovering new authors! The first historical romance I ever read was Surrender to Love by Rosemary Rogers. I remember sneaking it from my Aunt's bookshelf when I was 15... right then and there, I fell in love with historical romances. Some of my fav authors are Rosemary Rogers, Virginia Henley, Stephanie Laurens, Kinley MacGregor, Nicole Jordan... and recently discovered Sherrilyn Kenyon & Christine Feehan. I have an entire room full of books (dont ask me to count how many!)... friends are forever telling me I should sell some... but I couldnt bear to part with a single one! Anyhow, I have a habit of talking too much... so im off to read some posts. Nice to meet you all!

Hi to all the Newbies!!

As Veteran Member, reviewer, and sometime moderator, let me say how nice it is to see all the new faces here!! I'm afraid I've been neglecting the board lately and I'm feeling somewhat out of the loop!

So just for giggles I think I'll start a few new threads. I hope to see your replies soon!

Jenn

I know this is an old thread, but thought I would add my bit to it.

My name is Colleen and I live in Ontario, Canada.  I've been reading romances for 15 years, since I was 12.  My first romance was "Captive Bride" by Johanna Lyndsay.  My second was "The Savage" by Nicole Jordon.  And I have been searching for it ever since I gave my first copy away.  Hopefully it will be re-released soon.

I have exhaused a total of 17 libraries in 4 different towns.  I can read a book a day easily, and have just recently exhaused all my regular authors.  That's why I came to this site.  I needed new blood (or words, however you look at it).  After checking it out I went out today and bought 30+ books at the local second hand.   I'm debating getting some ebooks.  But I don't have a palm reader, and I like my books to go everywhere with me.  But it looks like so many good authors only have ebooks.  I'll have to figure that out.

Just for interest, my call name "gdtestqueen" is a bunch of different thing put together.  "gd" is for grahic design (that's what I do), "test" is for a wrestler that I like (he's got a great bod), and "queen" is in homage to Queen Amidala from Star Wars - My second passion next to romance novels.

Anyway, nice to meet all of you, and thanks for the great site!

Colleen
