Hi, I'm trying to remember the title of a book that got lost in one of my moves, and I'd like to find again...probably on a used book website. It was a historical romance...set around the time of Queen Elizabeth. The heroine's name was Lily, spanish mother/english father. She was shipwrecked on an island with her father, a ship's captain [privateer]. She had a brother born on the island named Simon...another woman shipwrecked on island also. There was a jaguar on the island. Rescued by her father's protoge, Captain--can't remember name...captured by the Spanish...ended up going back to island to retrieve something--can't remember. Wow, my memory is worse than I thought. I think the word "Emerald" was in the title. It was published in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
I believe I can help you, I've got that book. It's called WILD BELLS TO THE WILD SKY by Laurie McBain. It's main character is Lily Christian, and the hero was named Valentine Whitelaw. She was shipwrecked on the island with her mother, Magdelena, and her father's best friend Basil Whitelaw. She had a brother named Tristam and a sister named Dulcie, I think Simon was Basil's son. The book is out of print, the only place you will probably find it is in a used bookstore. It's a great read...I may have to go get it! It's about time for a reread.
