The last book I read was....

It's been a while since any new topics have been started so I'm sticking with a tried and true subject.

What was the last book you read and what did you think of it?

For me it was Dime Store Magic by Kelley Armstrong. My CP picked it up at the RWA conference and sent it to me along with a ton of other goodies. It was a cute story.

It's the second in a series I think, because the narrator (it's a first person POV) kept mentioning an event that happened last year, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything. It was very fast paced, full of smart a$$ dialogue, and definitely a fun read. The promo pages at the beginning compare it to Laurel K. Hamilton, and since it was about witches and sorcerers living in our modern world, I could see some parallels, but I don't think she's quite at a Laurel K. level yet. I'll keep an eye out for more by Kelley Armstrong since the ending really left itself open to a sequel, and in the mean time I've got 3 ebooks and Spell of the Highlander by KMM to keep me entertained.

How 'bout you??

Funnily enough, the last novel I read was "Haunted" by Kelley Armstrong. I LOVED Dime Store Magic and its sequal, Industrial Magic, and Haunted is about Savannah's Mom Eve. Since Paige and Lucas are in it I grabbed it.

I haven't read any of the Elena books--Elena doesn't really interest me. But I really loved DSM and IM. If I fall for the hero I'm hooked for life.

Other than that I'm reading nonfic-Self-Editing for Fiction Writers and Writing the Breakout Novel. Plus a book on demons and demonology as research for my WIP.

BTW, I recently read Spell of the Highlander--my first KMM book. It was okay. I had a few issues with it but in general I enjoyed it. I actually blogged about it a while back-June 25th.

Wow, almost creepy....

Lucas didn't really grab me, I prefer the hard core alphas for heroes. But I thought the story was a good one. I'm sending it off to a friend of mine next week to see what she thinks.

If you haven't read any of KMM's other Highlander books, may I recommend Immortal Highlander. It's by far the best of the bunch. I'm drooling just thinking about Adam Black... I hear Spell has a really hot shower scene?

Someone once recommended reading them all in order for more impact, but KMM does a good job of 'just enough backstory to get you by without making you feel like you're missing something'.

Argh, craft books. I just can't do it. I glaze over every time I try to read something about writing. But I've heard the Self-Editing one is great. I suppose I should see if the library has it...
